About Mason Of North America
Freemasonry is one of the world’s oldest fraternal organizations. It’s a brotherhood for men who are committed to personal growth, helping others, and living by a strong moral code A fraternal organization built on a moral and ethical framework. Its members are typically men who are committed to personal development and community service, guided by the allegorical teachings of medieval stonemasons and cathedral builders. It is not a secret society but a private organization with public charitable work.
Brotherly Love, Relief, and Truth
These are the three “great tenets” that form the moral foundation of a Mason’s life.
Brotherly Love: The principle of treating fellow Masons with kindness and respect, and extending this same goodwill to all of humanity.
Relief: The commitment to charity, both financially and emotionally. It is the active practice of providing aid and support to those in need.
Truth: A dedication to honesty, integrity, and honor in all aspects of life, and the pursuit of knowledge and moral light.
Lodge
A local group of Masons that meets regularly. The term “lodge” refers both to the physical meeting place and to the group of Masons who assemble there. A lodge is the foundational unit of the fraternity, where members conduct business, hold ceremonies, and build fellowship
The Square and Compasses
The most recognizable symbol of Freemasonry. The Square symbolizes morality and the importance of living a virtuous life, “squaring your actions with virtue.” The Compasses symbolize self-control and the ability to “circumscribe your passions.” Together, they represent the importance of living a well-balanced and upright life
Regalia
The ceremonial clothing and accessories worn by Masons during their meetings and events. This includes aprons, collars, jewels (medallions), and sashes. Each piece of regalia has a specific symbolic meaning and often indicates a Mason’s rank, office, or achievements within the fraternity.
Blue Lodge
The term for the first three degrees of Freemasonry: Entered Apprentice, Fellowcraft, and Master Mason. The vast majority of Freemasons belong to a Blue Lodge. The name comes from the traditional color associated with these degrees.
Grand Lodge
The sovereign governing body of Freemasonry within a specific geographic area, such as a state or a country. Each lodge operates under the authority of a Grand Lodge. The Grand Lodge of California, for example, is the governing body for all Masons in that state.
Core Purpose
“At its heart, Freemasonry is a way of life. We believe in three main principles: Brotherly Love, which means treating everyone with kindness; Relief, which is our commitment to charity and helping those in need; and Truth, which is our dedication to living with honesty and integrity. It’s a place where you can become a better man, build lifelong friendships, and make a positive impact on your community.”Clear Up
